The Story
Shebre's international breakthrough came in 2010 at the International Youth Folklore Festival in Nicosia, Northern Cyprus. This was the group's first major engagement outside of Africa, and it set the template for the touring life that would follow. Performing for an audience of international folklore enthusiasts and fellow ensembles, Shebre delivered a high-energy programme of Ghanaian drumming and dance that earned them an invitation to return. The Nicosia experience convinced the group's leadership that Ghanaian traditional performance had genuine global appeal.
